aftermarket muffler can't fit?

I recently purchased a cheaper aftermarket muffler for my 98 eclipse GS and took it to a local exhaust place to get it welded on. However after they looked at the muffler (its just over 17 inches long) they said that they would not be able to install it unless they put it at a really bad angle. I know I've seen eclipses with straight exhaust that doesn't have to be tilted. Is the muffler I bought just too long or is there a way to install it without putting it an an angle?

I've seen several Dsm's with there mufflers angled. I think they look fine.
Just make sure its not to the point where its burnin/touching the rear bumper and your set.

The guy at the exhaust place said the only way he could install it would be with an "extreme angle". He didn't elaborate except he said that it would look very awkward and be, in his opinion "very ugly". I'm not sure if it would be touching anything and I'm not sure what he considers an extreme angle. If I decided to return my muffler and find a replacement thats preferably under $100 that gives off a low tone that wouldnt be such a hassle to install, which muffler would you recommend? Thanks.

im selling my cat back that will fit your car. its 2.5in mandrel bent, its got a resanator so it'll be noticable but the cops wont give you a hassle, im not asking too much more than your willing to spend on a muffler, only 300 which is a killer deal for a catback.

Re: aftermarket muffler can't fit?

you have to re route the exhaust under the rear suspension so that its not at an angle. or a greddy evo 2 does this thats why its striaght.
