Transmission Plate Leak

With only 3500 miles on the car, I noticed my transmission was slipping. So, I took the car to the dealership and they said it was almost out of transmission fluid. I park the car in the same place everyday and never noticed any kind of leak.

What they found at the dealership was a small flaw in the steel of the transmission plate. The way they found it was with some kind of colored dye. They drove the car for awhile and then let it sit over night. Then they looked at the transmission with a special light and that's when they saw the small leak.

They replaced the plate and I have had no further problems. Anyone else had this happen? This is a first for me.

Re: Transmission Plate Leak

I haven't experienced that or heard of anyone else experiencing it. Thank you for the heads-up.

Hopefully the dealership gave you some type of documentation explaining your complaint (slipping transmission) and what they found (manufacturing defect). If your transmission fails prematurely, and the shop find it was most likely due being run low on fluid or slipping clutches, etc., you may want to touch base with Ford to find out if they will help you out. Of course this should be within reason. If the tranny lasts 120,000 miles before you have problems, or you constantly perform neutral drops, you cannot reasonably expect Ford to replace the tranny's full cost.

Wow, that was a fast reply to a new member like me. I seem to always have strange problems with cars. Maybe I'm just a strange person, but I wanted to tell someone else my story in hopes I wasn't alone. I'll keep this forum bookmarked and check back every few days. Thanks for your reply.

I'm back. I guess my problem was very unique. That's a first. I've been reading some of the other subjects here in the forum and I think I'll keep this place bookmarked. Lots of different problems out there with cars. Thanks again for the fast reply to my first message, here.
