2001 low coolant light

My low coolant light came on and won't go off. There is plenty of coolant in the motor, anyone know how to reset the message?

Re: 2001 low coolant light

I wish I knew! I have the exact same problem with my '01. Originally they changed my coolant level sensor, then my thermostat. After the coolant level sensor was changed, the light went off for a month or so, then came back on. I assumed that the new sensor was bad so I had them replace it again! Again, the light went off, but came back on again in about a week! Obviously the dealer couldn't have gotten 2 bad sensors, and then my best friend who drives a '00 Monte had the same problem! I do know that there isn't a reset process through the stereo like there is for oil, tire pressure, etc...

A mechanic friend of mine told me today that he heard on the radio that there was an issue with the intake gaskets in the '00 - 04 Monte Carlo's and that they were looking to recall for this problem. If they have yet or not, I don't know. I would say call your local dealer and ask if there are any recalls that apply to your vehicle. I will be doing the same tomorrow! Happy Hunting!

Low coolant light

Thanks for the reply,I checked into recalls, but did not find any on this problem.I checked my fluid level again and it's good, so it should not be a intake gasket or I would be losing coolant.I hate to spend money on the sensor[Priced at $62.00]if the fluid level is OK.But then again the message light being on all the time bugs the crap out of me!

Re: Low coolant light

Trust me.. after about 6 months of it being on for no reason, you'll get used to it!!! I do have an issue with my intake gasket, and I know it leaks a little, but not much because I haven't had to add coolant for at least 6 months... that's why I am saying that you might want to check into that. I'll keep you posted if I find anything new! Thanks for responding!

It was the low coolant sensor located on the radiator about 6 inches down on the passenger side.Pretty easy fix, about $40.00 if you do it yourself.
