Re: Tamiya Magazine - your views

Sticky-
That's not a bad price. It's only about $1 an issue more than in the US, and just about the same as buying it on the newsstand.

Freakray-
You know what I mean.... It's the same language, but the terminology and wording is often just a LITTLE different. It sometimes takes a few reads to get what they are saying.

My apologies, I've never noticed any difference in the terminology or wording.
I would have thought I would being born in England and now living in America.

yeah, like how the USA call it a fender, England calls it a wing, and we call it a quarter panel.

or, faucett, and tap.

fries or chips

ass or arse

all similar, but different.

Re: Tamiya Magazine - your views

The best one is fanny!! Fanny means your arse in America, however, in English (Scottish too!!) it means something entirely different!!

Re: Re: Tamiya Magazine - your views

Tamiya Model Magazine used to be issued every two months however now it is monthly. I have subscribed for a number of years and they used to do regular car and bike builds including the use of various transkits and upgrade kits. They now concentrate heavily on military (ground based), aircraft (all types), and naval vessels of various manaufacturers including Dragon, AFV, Hasegawa, and Tamiya. They have acknowledged editorially that they have been neglecting the car/bike bit and in the current issue even include a build of the '04 Yamaha Kit (Tamiya 14098). I am currently mulling over a decision of whether to renew my subscription at the moment as I think I would prefer to subscibe to Car Modeler magazine instead (I already subscribe to Scale Auto) - there just aren't enough cars or bikes in TMMI.

Some reasonable examples...but it's still English.

But an ass is an animal.....hence 'acting like an ass'

yes true, but in American TV they refer to "i'll kick yo ass"

and i've also noticed a lack of any local scale auto mags.

Re: Tamiya Magazine - your views

American:
"Fanny": Noun; a person's bottom! As in "Cleetus just bought a brand new fannypack" (bum-bag)

Scottish/English:
"Fanny": Noun; a ladies front-bottom! As in "let's go into town and pull some fanny" (let's pick up girls)

hehehehehehehehe
