Re: how to make carbon kevlar?

Carbon Kevlar is extremely expensive. Quality bi-directional Carbon Fiber, cheaper then carbon kevlar, still costs $75-$90 per square yard. Carbon Kevlar is much more pricey, for the roughly same quality. You will not notice a difference between Carbon Fiber and Carbon Kevlar except for color, as well as weight.

Carbon Fiber and carbon kevlar are extremely difficult to work when they are needed for tight areas, or areas with many angles or different curves.

Carbon kevlar is hard to obtain due to the high price, as well as demand. Not many people use it, except for racing leagues.

I dont know why you want Carbon Kevlar anyway, instead of Carbon Fiber, or even fiberglass?

Re: how to make carbon kevlar?

your wrong about a few things mike, carbon kevlar is not more expensive than carbon fiber. To me its not that hard to work with, but I have quiet a bit of composites expiereice, I would not recomend it to you, as you oviously have no or very little experience.

Last time I checked, CK was more expensive than CF. But thanks for the info. I found CF harder to work than fiberglass for certain things because it is a much tougher material. Thats just my experience.

Re: how to make carbon kevlar?

Check out http://www.fibreglast.com they sell carbon kevlar in yellow/blue/red. I buy most of my carbon fiber for my buisiness though them, they have the best quality and best shipping/service that I'v found. I accually just got a roll of carbon fiber from them a few minutes agofor this months products. The thing you have to watch out for with kevlar is the only resin that works expecially well with it is Vinyl Ester. Polyester resins wont work with it. Epoxy resins work well with it but are very expensive. Kevlar is also extremely hard to cut, at my shop I use industrial 12" sheers and they usually only cut a few yards before they need resharpening, dont even attempt to use regular sissors on it like you can carbon fiber and fiberglass. If it is going to be for automotive use I'm assuming you want a smooth finish so you will have to use a mold, you cannot sand kevlar, you will end up with a big sheet of fuzz. Sorry my first post wasnt very informative, I was in a hurry, but maby this one cleared things up a little more. I work with composites for a living so if you have any questions I can probably answer them.
