Thumbs down vw fox wont start clicks...

ok i read through all the "vw fox wont start" posts and my problem sounds a bit different. i have an 89 fox and when i turn the key i get a clicking noise in my engine, but it doesnt turn over. it was running fine up untill this point. i have full power and jump starting it doesnt do anything. ive been told it might be the starter motor but i am not sure and thought id ask before loosing all my money.

im not very good when it comes to cars but this fox is my new baby and i neeeeed it!! any help from a VW genius would be very appreciated

thx

Re: vw fox wont start clicks...

Find a screwdriver you're not fond of & cross between the starter solenoid's large terminal that goes to the positive battery post and the small trigger (red/black wire). That should cause the starter to engage & turn the engine. I suspect it will only click. If it only clicks then connect between the two large terminals on the starter solenoid. The starter motor should turn (it may not engage the flywheel though). If that still won't turn the starter motor then it's most likely the starter that's bad. If that does turn the starter motor but it still won't start from the ignition switch (just clicks) then again I'd still say the starter is bad.
