FIVE ?! cylinders engine? (850 wagon 1995)

What, FIVE cylinders??!
I was going to buy a 1995 850 GLT, manual trans, when I discovered it has a five (yes, 5) cylinder engine.

Is it reliable, or does it often need repairs?
Power-wise, is it a dog or a tiger?

Should I maybe look for a Volvo with either 4 or 6 cylinders?

Thanks, Space Cowboy
