paint

just a few questions as i am learning about painting my car so i can do it in the near future. What types of paint are avaliable, the type of paint i keep seeing is acrylic, is this worse/better than painting with enamel? what is 2-pack paint and finally how many coats of clear coat should i use for a nice finish, or how many coats would i get from a 4 litre of paint or clear coat. Sorry for all the questions but i trust the responses here more that other places. regards. Chris.

if you mean where at my place, not where on the car, on my lawn, over some plastic sheeting under a car shade cover thats been surrounded by once again plastic sheeting, trying to keep out 99% of the wind. prolly duct tape up the gaps. ill spray in the morning and let sit there, hopefully on a rain free day.

Re: Re: Re: paint

Wow, good luck with that. Most professional painters use rooms that have huge filtered circulation vents to remove dust and what not. and wear full body suits so they can breath, and dont get paint on their clothes, or dust from their clothes on their paint. On top of all that if you want a really nice paint job you really need to remove EVERYTHING, like glass, interior, engine, lights, ect... other wise you will always and forever have old paint from where you tape off. If you really really wanted to do a good job I would say strip as much as you can out of the car, then strip the paint down to the primer, resand, reprimer the WHOLE body, sand, paint hover many coats you want, clearcoat however many coats you want, then wet sand the clear coat with polishing silica or alumina to remove paint ripples. However if you want a cheep, fast, and easy repaint go to Macco.

Either way Post some before and after pics, I know I'd love to see em!

i get my new camera soon so you will have some before shots, but basically all the paint on the exterior has to eb stripped to the metal as it is cracking and horrible, a new opportunity to use a garage intead of a tent has occured, ill just give it a big clean and cover everything in plastic, i have a pack of disposable plastic overalls that i will be using and a ventilation mask, also wetting the concrete and putting paper liek a skirt on the bottom of the car to help stop under body over spray. Im thinking of doing it in monza red, btu ill find out, im doing it in red as the origional colour was red so the engine bay wont look as bad as ifi did it in green

Re: paint

My buddy has a 240z thats yellow but if you look at the hinges, engine compartment, ect.. its blue under the yellow. Talk about horrible looking. On top of that somebody put a four speed transmission onto the original engine and I swear it sounds like a big, old, beat up, ford truck.

P.S. Good luck! hope it turns out nice!
