Well, I have had my Colorado Sport Crew Cab since March 2004, and I have to admit that it has been completely joyous... until now. Recently, I have had three issues.
1. The AC seems to make a high-pitched whistling noise as the compressor kicks on or off. 2. I have developed an extremely annoying "squeak" somewhere around the drivers door? Doesn't seem to happen ALL of the time, but MAN, when it happens, it will just about drive me out of the cab. I can't figure out where it's coming from?! If I accelerate or brake, the noise seems to subside. When I turn to the left and right, the noise also seems to subside. I have tried opening and closing the door as well as letting up/down the window (but then I can't hear it) in an attempt to make the noise go away. The squeak sounds like rubber or plastic rubbing together in an attempt to drive me insane! 3. I have managed to run over SOMETHING that stained 3-4 small spots behind my wheels, on the body, a red-tinted color. The body shop has tried everything EXCEPT buffing the paint with a machine. They ultimately recommend I just leave it as rubbing compound was not removing the stain. Any ideas? I'd love to hear some suggestions regarding these topics. Tx. - Speedi |

It has since started raining and I believe that has made it go away. I haven't heard it in about 2 days. I washed the truck yesterday, and still, no squeak. It had gotten so bad that I could just pull into the garage and I could hear it when I was tapping the brakes to complete the pull-in. Annoying. I want to say it's coming from INSIDE the door? I have also noticed that when I let the drivers side window down, there is a thud.. almost as if the window is being yanked down by the motor and then something "catches". Letting the window UP does not make any sound. Any ideas on either of these topics? Tx. - Speedi |

![]() So, you can imagine how puzzled I am. There is no way you can take your car to the dealership with a phantom noise. It has to be there ALL the time and they have to be able to instantly reproduce the issue. - Speedi |

Re: Squeaky noise coming from driver's side??
Check the emergency brake cable running along the frame under the truck (coincidentally, under the driver's seat). Mine was rubbing on the frame and squeaking and I applied grease where it looked like it was hitting the frame. Squeak went away. Good luck.

Thanks for the suggestion. Is this one of the many cables running along the frame that's easily visible from the driver's side of the truck? Tx. - Speedi |

Re: Squeaky noise coming from driver's side??
I had the same kind of squeek coming from both my passenger and occationally my drivers side(2004 Colorado Z71 Crew, drove 3/04-2/05 17k miles). It nearly drove me to insanity!!!! I finally isolated it at the V where the door/roof support beam meets with the dash. I did a temp fix by jamming my air freshener in between the dash and the beam. Note: you may need to adjust the position a little before the sound goes completely away.
I have since sold off this POS and gotten the hell away from it...nothin but problems. Moved to a proven quality truck (2001 Chev Silverado Z71 LT Ext Cab)...not it is a 2001 B4 they started getting TOO cheap on the production lines! Never been happier! ;o) |

Did anyone ever figure out what this is from? I have this exact problem. It sounds different when I speed up, slow down, or brake- and the sound often completely goes away for long periods of time randomly or when I turn. I can't pinpoint where it's coming from and often sounds like it's in the door. Did anyone try checking out their parking brake like a post suggested? If so, did it work? What did you do? Thanks!

Tx. - Speedi[/quote] I have a similar squeak which I agree can "drive one insane". I liken mine to a nest full of baby bird chicks. I've noticed that this intermittent noise is temperature and humidity dependent. Cool, damp conditions will bring it about while the summer heat keeps it more at bay. I've had it to my Chevy dealer once and they were sure they had it fixed due to a service bulletin about brake cable noise, but it didn't do any good. The sound itself seems to be coming from the dashboard but it's really somewhere UNDER the dash. I determined this by driving with a stethoscope in my ears and placing it at the top of the dash where I heard nothing. I can replicate the noise by driving slowly down hill in 3rd gear or higher using the engine as a brake. A rough road surface helps to generate some suspension movement and the baby birds really start to squeal. Turning the steering wheel abruptly back and forth changes the pitch dramatically as well as tapping or pumping the brakes. The dealership owner heard the noise but I doubt that it was communicated to the mechanic who actually tried to fix it. The dealer says "If we start taking the dash apart you might end up with more squeaks and rattles". In my opinion that's not a good excuse for not finding the source of my problem. I'm going to try the dealer again and insist that the mechanic goes along for the ride. I find it really embarrassing to have a passenger who says "this is a new vehicle and it squeaks like that?". In Pennsylvania we have a real good Lemon Law. A couple of more tries with the dealer and GM can have it back. Any new ideas out there as to what is the cause? I like the vehicle otherwise, especially the fuel economy with the rwd 4-cylinder. Canoefly |
