2000 MGM GS Rolls Backward in Drive

Perhaps the transmission was designed this way, but my 2000 Grand Marquis GS will roll backwards on a hill when the car is in Drive. I'm not talking a few feet and then the transmission catches either. If I let my foot off the break, the car will continue to roll backwards until I put stop it with the break. When the car is in Drive, shouldn't the transmission keep it from rolling backwards??? Thanks in Advance!

Couple things.....how steep of a hill are we talking about? The torque converter will put a little bit of power to the transmission at idle, which will keep you from rolling on a slight incline, but on a steeper one the weight of the car will overcome this small amount of thrust and the car will roll.

And now... the smart @ss answer:

put your foot on the brake on that hill.

Hope this helps.
