missing under hard accel at 5K?

I have a 97 3.2. When I'm at full throttle at 5 thousand rpm it seems like the engine stops accellerating, then loses a few hundred , and then continues on accellerating. It doesn't have any other problems and I maintain the truck meticulously. has anyone ever heard of this? This is confuseing the heck out of me.

To be honest, I've never hit the 5K mark, so I don't know if mine would've ever done the same as yours, seeing as we have the exact same engine. And, we're both near or at the 130K mark!

For some reason I've always been very adament about keeping the RPM's to less then 4K-4,500 at most, that's usually pulling a 4K# boat through the Rockies.

But I'm curious to hear what you find out. I've always known these engine's to be rever's, and I've heard they even like it - so I'm surprized to hear this is an issue.

Re: missing under hard accel at 5K?

Have you thought of the alternator?? Might be a stretch, but reason I'm suggesting, is I'm sure you've read my posts about my voltage issues. Though my volts read normal 95% of the time.

Well during this time, I too had a very slight miss, like the engine would cut out for the faintest of seconds. I honestly believed the spark plugs were going, though they were just changed a year ago. Took a look at them, and they're fine, but after the gremlin (reman alternator) begin to truly show a fault, and had it replaced with new. My miss has totally vanished now.

Keep searching, I'd like to know.

to be honest, i'm not sure if rodeo's have rev limiters....but you are explaining exactly what a rev limiter does if so. you hit a certain speed or rpm, and the computer pulls back the reins on you for a second before letting you slam it again, then pulls back the reins again and so on. anyone know if there are rev limiters on rodeos??

I remember reading somewhere that the computer has a rev limiter function.

As I recall, it is set somewhere around 6500 RPM.

I'll try to confirm this when I have more time.

Spark plugs possibly. I had a problem similar to this and new plugs cleared it up.

Re: missing under hard accel at 5K?

i know 5k is to low to be the rev limiter because the redline is about 6200. don't they normally set the rev limiter near or around the redline? I'm beginning to think its the plugs, If it is the plugs what should I get. I hear you should only use Denso, then I hear NGK is ok, what say you?

Re: missing under hard accel at 5K?

I'm going to reaffirm my notion of the rev limiter here. just b/c the tach redline is 6200 doesn't mean isuzu engineers want you going anywhere near it. a lot of times instrumentation is solely for looks, how else do you explain why some cars not nearly capable of going certain speeds nevertheless have speedometers with gaudy numbers (like a fiesta or something with a speedo of 150, you following me??) I've hit rev limiters many times in years past and the result is exactly what you are explaining your rodeo as doing. Now whether or not yours is set at the right limit is a different story....Anyways, if you need to replace the plugs anyway then go right ahead. Use Densos, you'll have to search for the part # yourself, sorry! I personally don't think it will solve your problem, but good luck blowin' that thing up!! Let us know if the plugs do the trick..

It seems so many cars/trucks do have a Rev limiter, so I don't see why Isuzu wouldn't have one too.

In regards to personally testing my 97 to see if it will do the same; sorry, not me, got too much invested in this baby. Not saying you're damaging yours, b/c you're probably not if it's just a once in a while occasion - I just personally don't have the gutts to do it myself.
