changing to snythetic oil

I want to change to synthetic oil. I have a 03 V6 SC with 4,000 Miles. I have had one oil change. I have heard you should break it in with regular oil, but then can change to synthetic. How many miles is that?

Also, can I switch to a KM air filter now?

Will either changes cause a problem with the warranty?

I run dino-oil so I'll let the others answer the first question. The only problem with the K&N might be the MAS being fouled by overoiling of the filter. As with all warranty violations, it's up the dealer to prove that your modification caused the part to fail.

Also you should consider the K&N FIPK's as they provide better performance improvements than the K&N filter which is more of a service-cost replacement savings.

Re: changing to snythetic oil

I've been told by a veteran Nissan Master Technician to run about 10K miles before going synthetic. 4000 is probably enough, but one or two more oil changes on dino won't take any life out of the engine. In fact, if you never switched at all and just changed w/ dino oil and kept up other maintenence, the enigine would last over 200K no problem anyway. Synthetic is just peace of mind, or extra protection for those that are more than typically hard on the engine.
