Re: ULTIMATE SCRATCHBUILD: 1/6 Hot Rod (Progress)

mike i hear you on the comments keeping you going. i seem to keep myself updated on my corvette. dont get many replies these days. i've pretty well lost interest in it for the time beeing. i know everyone says to build for yourself. but it just gives you that extra oomph knowing that people are following what you are doing and are interested in your build. so in reality you are building for everyone.

UPDATES:

I have been cutting away at the 15Gage 4130 Cold rolled steel. I have cut the pieces of the frame rails out. The pieces for the frame rails weighs about 3lbs alone; without cross members or the 3lb engine. After welding the rolling chassis will probably weight about 10-12lbs (sorry metric guys).

I am getting to work on the rear differential. Im still trying to find a piece of solid 1-1/2" (approx 40mm) for the basic piece of the diff. Unfortunately I have to work from 2:30-close (closes at 9:30, but I'll be there closing up the place till about 10:15 probably). I will try to find something and work on the diff tonight and have pics of it.

Below are pictures of the cross member (seen on the previous page) with the welds cleaned up. Its sitting on designs for the diff.

I appreciate all of the support and feedback, it keeps me fueled to keep on working. I appreciate y'all being there throught the ups and downs of this project, if it werent for y'all I would have probably quit a long time ago. Thanks guys!

If you want me to post picture of the pieces for the frame rails let me know. They arent welded together yet, but if you want pics I will try to get them before work.

UPDATES:

You would think with the Hemi that this project would be moving along faster. I have the pieces of 4130 cut for the frame rails; I'm just waiting to weld them. Hopefully I can go weld them Sunday, unless I get off work one of these days this week.

So in the mean time I have been trying to go ahead and make as many parts as I can without the chassis so when I do weld the frame up, I can have a rolling frame in no time and start building the body.

Heres what I have started, the differential. Its not perfect yet, still needs some messing with. I also need to make a tight fit in the end for the ball bearing to fit into; the opening is a little large.
Unfortunately my paint booth is pretty dusty since I am preparing to move. I will have to wash that thing with lots of lacquer thinner before setting up in the new place.

I still have yet to create the cap on the rear of the diff. That I would like to make out of metal to chrome pieces of it. Im still thinking of how I want it to look, I will post some designs later if you wish.

This thing keeps on being awesome. Good luck getting it done for November! I'm making the trip up to Atl, so you better make it worth my while!

Dang, that thing looks great. I still can't believe your going to totally scratchbuild this thing. I know I don't have the skills yet, so kudos to you.
