Question Shell Optimax v Mobil Synergy v BP ultimate v Caltex

Lets hear some comments on which one of these you like and why.
Taking into account firstly performance, then fuel economy and quietness.
Optimax makes my car sound really coarse.
I like mobil synergy 98 overall by far.
Any thoughts?

MY GTR got more hp on the dyno with bp ultimate. That was good enough for me.

fuel

BP claim that their 98RON is the "cleanest burning fuel" sold in New Zealand.I use it in my SR20VE and it seems to give good performance although I have not compared it to Synergy on a Dyno.Did use Synergy coming home from meremere one time but made no difference to NVH or performance- well not noticeable anyway...

optimax seems to give good power but car seems very loud and vibrating and thrashy sounding. Synergy makes it sound really quiet - no tremors at all and really really smooth whilst also giving good performance but seems not as good as optimax in this department. Havnt tried BP yet. Also I have heard rumours that Optimax is bad for RB25DET - a few Nissan mechanics have said this. Any similar experiences any1?

Blah blah blah blah blah blah blah

Iv spent over 5 years working in the industry, and any differnce you may feel or observe from any of the differnt fuels is down to either your own imagination or getting lucky when you last filled up, or your own guibility falling for the brand loyalty based marketing.

If you took 100 differnt cars, and tested them on 100 tanks of each of the above fuels listed above for max hp, and km per L then you find the results would show that each fuel performed exactly the same.

Well considering the milage I have driven in both my GTS-t and GTR I got better milage per tank on BP Ultimate over Synergy.

That was not based on a single tank but over 20 tank fulls of each. On average the milage was 20% better with BP so I would venture to say it burns better.

However in saying other club members have had the opposite happen to them. So it is possible that it is more of a car thing than a driver's perception thing.

If I was stand on one side of the fence, between the 2 choices.

It really should not make a differnce what brand you use.

Facts

I work at a servo and there is an interesting fact that you should all know. Mobil Synergy and BP ultimate is the same fuel. It is made by Mobil and sold to BP. So all those gains to be had from switching between the two...?? Optimax seems to be about the same, however it goes off much quicker. Not usually a problem, but something to note. Caltex is utter crap, especially in a performance/hi compression engine. In addition to all this, you have to remember that to be accurate with your comparisons, the fuels cant be mixed and must be flushed between change-of-brand fill ups.

Re: Shell Optimax v Mobil Synergy v BP ultimate v Caltex

For a Skyline - in NZ - there are only two sensible choices: BP Ultimate, or Mobil Synergy 8000. You need more than the 96 RON offered by the other fuels. Gull? No. They may well often be higher than 96 RON, but not always, and that could be a problem.

Between BP/Mobil? Not really noticed a difference, except that the only station anywhere near us with BP Ultimate has installed these absolutely bizarre angled judder bars - when there was already a judder bar on the driveway - making it impossible to get in comfortably in my car, let alone Andy's (which is lowered). Therefore we've gone back to Mobil.
