Low power in tight turns--normal?

I just purchased an '88 Pathfinder to have something to bash around the mountains in. I've noticed that when I make tight turns (like pulling into a parking space) the motor feels really forced. Like I have to give it a lot of gas just to get it to move. It's a lot worse when I have it in 4WD than in 2WD. How common is this, and should I be worried?

Never try to make tight turns in 4WD on dry pavement. The front and rear axles are locked together and you could very possibly break something from the stress of trying to turn all 4 tires on a hard surface. In 2WD it shouldn't be that bad at all.

Thanks for the reply. Didn't take me long to figure out that this was a big no-no. Glad I didn't break anything first. After a little more testing, I realized that it turns fine off-road (4WD). In 2WD everything is great on pavement. Thanks again.
