Scale Auto review an issue ago.....

Very good curbside kit.... Perfect fit! Could have used more detail in some areas and if I had been allowed I would have painted the red instead of using the decal. In person compared to the real car the red is a little too dark.... But all in all its a well engineered kit.

Wouldn´t it be a little hard to paint the red? That looks like a mighty masking job to me.

Did you 'clear coat' the windows? or did they look like that out of the box (misty)?

Wow! Superb result and finish. I have one of these but all I have done so far is glue the various bodwork parts together & I didn't think the front and rear sections fitted too well, they needed a lot of sanding & bending to get a satisfctory flush fit. Yours doesn't look too bad. In my opininon as it is a curb side kit it would have been better if the body had been moulded in a single section.

Great job on the decals, were they tricky and did they respond to Microset & Sol? Did you clearcoat them?

The decals responded very well to Micro sol. They are Cartograph so no suprise there... I agree the parts were a little warped and the plastic very soft. I Painted all the white, blue, decaled and then cleared the whole body. Its a decent kit for a curbside....

And the windows are a little milky in the kit. That is why they look the way they do. I tried to polish them out but it made little difference....

Thanks for the info. It gives me some inspiration to do some more on mine! You certainly achieved a high quality finish. I'm not looking forward to the masking job on the blue! Also, mine is an original version not the recent release, so it dosesn't have cartograph decals, not sure what they'll be like, do you have any experience / advice? Thanks.

Stunning work dude. Detail and finish is amazing. So what is your magic solution for such a great clearcoat? What clearcoat are you using? Assuming it's airbrushed? If so, what pressure? Always always always impressed with your finishes...

I'm getting back to the bench after a couple years off and need to know the latest and greatest

Thanks guys... I use 2 types of clears.....

Dupont 7500S chromaclear which I believe has been replaced by 7600S. Its an all around all purpose clear. A 4:1 ratio clear to hardener that requires no reducer. The other clear I use is Omni, which is made by PPG. It is also a 2 part clear that is a 2 part clear to 1 Part hardener and 1 part reducer.

I use the Dupont when I want a super clear finish with minimal polishing. It does not die back so how it goes on is how it dries... but can be thicker as a trade off. The clear on the Nissan is dupont shot at about 35 PSI. I shoot higher to push the clear out of the gun and it makes the clear lay down real smooth on the first coat. All my clearcoats get 2 coats of clear....

The omni goes on thinner, but also dies back and requires polishing but also keeps detail levels better... both yield excellent results.... I just painted these 2 bodies for a client and I used PPG automotive black basecoat on both and Omni clear. I did polish these but there is no welling of the clear anywhere or lost panel lines.... thats the trade off......

WHen I polish I use 2000 grit and wetsand the clearcoat. Then I polish it out with 3M Perfect it III followed by scratchX II. Here is the results.....






Wear a respirator whenever you spray the stuff because its real harmful to the lungs... The hardener contains Isocynates that can be very harmful...........

Yes they will Mick, and even over Tamiya acrylics!!

Wow, that's an impressive finish, I'd never have guessed the red was decal..!! It really does look painted on. Can I ask which blue you used..?? I have a Tamiya version of this car to build in the future and I was looking for a suitable blue for it...
