Chevy 350 in a CJ5.
Ok, so i've got a chevy engine in my jeep(CJ5).
What i need to know is, What size engine is it, and what kind of preformance mods would you chevy buffs recomend? i pulled of the casting #'s and they are as follows: 32GM 3970010(on the left side of the back of the engine block) right now all i know about the engine is that its got an edelbrock torkerII intake manifold, and edelbrock valve covers. Any help appreciated, And thanks in Advance.

Re: Chevy 350 in a CJ5.
Do not use the stock transmission, will break with the perfomrnce of the 350.My Uncle Steve had one with a small block Chevy and it broke the stock transmission. For a Carb, avoid a Holley and stick with an Edelbrock. The Holley is the biggest piece of junk for a street carb running like crap and only good for racing purposes only.Holleys are also known for flooding out and are a pain to set up.Plus if changes are done to a Holley, everything gets changed. The Edlebrock is the easiest street carb to set up and to change over the Holley.I have heard of guys wanting to do this to Holley carbs after switching to an Edlebrock for a street carb: THROW IT ON THE FLOOR!

Re: Chevy 350 in a CJ5.
I dont know man, iv always heard that holley was the better of the to types of carbs. i got a really good deal on the holly carb so i think ill put that on, but i think ill get an edelbrock as well and see which one i like more.
what kind of transmission do you all think WOULD be good for this kind of vehicle?

Re: Chevy 350 in a CJ5.
The factory transmission in this Jeep my uncle steve used to own was the manual transmission.Convert to an automatic, either a turbo 350,400,a 700R4 if you want an overdrive transmission. The turbo 350 is a lot better than the turbo 400.If looking for a 700R4,loook for a K on the bellhousing since it is out of a 4x4 which is a stronger case.I have seen bad luck with Holleys, run like crap and have pump the gas pedal a lot more.I knw a guy that has a 1970 Chevy truck, had a holley on it running like crap and that was replaced with an Edelbrock which started on the first start and still runs fine with the Edelbrock.Have a 1966 Chevy II Nova, flooded out a lot,had a 1200 CFM Holley on a stock 327 (too big cfm).Tried another holley, got worse and that holley was replaced with a brand new Edelbrock which ran a lot better although the heads have to come off.The valve seat are still the soft seats and the lead additive was never used
