Arrow My SOHC Belt Broke (Here's The Story)

We were driving and I heard a big POOF. I looked under the hood and the Belt broke. We had it towed, put a new Belt on it, and it ran. It ran for about a week or so, then it cut off. I think it may be the Water Pump, but I don't know. Will someone help me and tell me what you think it is?

Re: My SOHC Belt Broke (Here's The Story)

The water pump is driven by the timing belt and is behind a plastic cover. The belt or belts that you can see are the alternator belt and power steering /AC belt if you have them. If you don't have Power steering and AC there will only be one belt. If the alternator belt comes off the battery will go dead and the car will stop running.

Yeah, but I tried to turn the Motor by hand, and I'm not weak. It wouldn't turn. I bought a Water Pump yesterday.

If the timing belt brakes the engine will bend valves.

So that's why it's not running?

Re: My SOHC Belt Broke (Here's The Story)

Run a compression test to make sure, I have one that only bent one cylinder's worth and it runs on 3. Did one last year and it bent the exhausts on one cylinder and the intakes on another it wouldn't run. The timing belt and water pump should be replaced at around 80 to 100K. It also is a good idea th replace the cam seal or seals if it is a DOHC. Dodge has a seal retainer that bolts behind the plastic cover to keep the seal from poping out. This is a big problem with the 2.0 dodge engine if it does there is a bad oil leak and more than one has bit the dust from running out of oil.
