1999 740i electrical gremlins

My dealer can`t seem to correct a new battery(dec.2002)from loosing it`s charge even when the car is running. There is no telling when and where the car will leave me stranded. Can anyone offer ideas besides the alternator which they claim is not at fault. Also there is an audible engine whine through the car`s radio on AM band only which cannot be corrected. Thanks for any comments you may have.

1995 BMW 740iL Electrical Hell

I have a 1995 740iL BMW that continously blows several fuses, it was first blamed on the A/C but I had that replaced at great expenses to be told that this was not the problem electrical wires keep burnning after each step the mechanics do. I have found out through great research of my own that this is a common problem to have with this car if it ever happens once. I have had this car in the shop for 7 weeks trying to solve this can anyone help I miss my car.

possible cause for your troubles

Some time back, an E38 owner posted that he had several electrical gremlins caused by what finally was diagnosed as a wiring harness short. He located a place where the main harness left the engine compartment through the wheel well. I don't recall which side, but to access it he removed the front wheel and the wheel well liner. The main harness had been crushed behind the liner and the body panel and over time the insulation wore away allowing several wires to short. He cleaned and reconnected them and protected them. After this he found his problems were gone.

Could be your situation too? I hope this helps, good luck
