oil light help
I have a friend who just stopped by with her Liberty and said the oil light came on as she was driving to my house. I checked her oil and and it was about a 1/4" above the full line. She had it changed 300 miles ago.
We started it up and I couldn't hear any noise and the oil light was off. She left my house and the oil light came on again. Is this a bad sensor or do we have a bigger problem? Maybe too much oil? I wouldn't think that would turn a light on though. -MARK

Re: oil light help
could be a oil pressure sensor (sender) right above the oil filter. but to make sure you will need to screw a manual guage in were the sender goes to test the oil pressure. if it tests good at hot idle you will need a new sender.

Re: oil light help
Okay thanks. I have a manual gauge.
Do you know what the spec range is at hot idle? -MARK

Re: oil light help
according to my haynes manual. it is 4 psi at hot curb idle and at 3000 rpm :25-110 psi. keep in mind alot of these oil pressure senders fail because they get gunked up and don't read right. thats why you do a manual test. lastly hot curb idle means fully warmed up and i am not talking just when the temp guage is in the middle. you need to take it up and down the highway 20-30 min to fully warm it up then take the hot idle reading. you can even install the manual test guage when it is cold, then take it up and down the highway and then read hot idle! fyi mike
p.s. you might want to check the factory fsm of a more detailed chilton's manual. i don't always trust haynes!

Re: oil light help
Wow, 4 psi seems low but I guess I don't work with the newer stuff much.
Thanks again.
