1980 Cadillac Choke

I have a 1980 Cadillac Fleetwood 6L V8. The choke takes FOREVER to come off. What is the purpose of the wire going to the choke?

welcome to AF. This is a hot wire that heats the choke after starting so it shuts down, check for 12v, after starting.
