Noise...Help me =)

I have a 2006 ex v6 accord with 31k on it.....I've been hearing this brinding metallic noise comming from my passenger side in the back. The noise doesn't occur when im braking or anything. When im driving hit bumps or just random, my car will start making that noise....I also noticed when im on the highway its more frequent...I am getting the tires changed today because i have a slow leak in one, and when i bought the car, i ran over a nail lol...What lucky person i am... So im hoping this is a tire issue... Someone help lol!!!

The noise might be comming from the low tire pressure, but I would check brakes as well. Ask the technician to look in the caliper window when he removes the wheel. It is that easy. I do not think he will charge you for that.

Only thing I can think of is your brake pads need replacement, but you're mileage seems too low for that. Just to rule that out, I would check the pads and disc, for any unusual wear on either one of them.

Is it a grinding metal or screaching sound? It is probably the break pad. The pad has a metal strip intended to warn owner that the break is getting pretty low. Just take it to break service place, they usually check it for free.

The only problem with that, is that 9 times out of 10, they will say that they need to be replaced, even if they don't...

The question is, when it makes the noise, does applying the brake make the sound stop?

If so, it's most likely in the brake, possibly in the hub. If not it could be a tire/wheel issue, but they usuually either make noise or don't, or make noise at certain speeds.

I think I'd check the lugnut torque before I did anything.

If that car has the "drum inside rotor" emergency brake setup (I don't know) with the small set of brake shoes inside the rotor hat, it may have a broken holdown or spring in there, which an external inspection won't show...

doesnt this type have rear disc brakes with the e brake on the inside of the rotor

Tomarrow or Friday im going to take my car to the mechanic..I changed the tires, and the noise is still there, I put pretty good tires on I got Toyos. I notice it when im driving on the highway doing 60-70mph....It's the weirdest noise ever, its like this weird metallic grinding sound and its so faint. The way i describe it is, u know when u shake a lightbulb, and it makes that sound? That's exactly what it sounds like, if thats any help lol.

Well you must have very good ear hearing this at 70mph on freeway. When the noise present, do you have your window roll up? There are many things that could be moving at that speed and is very hard to find out but probably has something to do with rear suspension or possibly bent muffler from running over cats and skunks?

LoL so that gave me a real good laugh...Ok i am girl and ur probably thinking i can't drive... But I never had any compliants and i think im a pretty good driver, commin from the metro area... Im pretty good...And i definitly don't Road kill orrrrrrr run over shit.... i wouldnt do that to my car lol....When i see a plastic bag i go around it, so yeah i don't have that problem. When i know the problem i'll let u know =)

Are your windows completely closed.....there's alot of air moving by at 70 mph.

Some noises can drive you nuts...and can be VERY hard to find the source...

I once had an older Dodge Caravan in the shop that the owner heard a loud rumble when moving over 35 mph that increased in severity with speed, she'd had it to two other shops and one dealer and nobody could determine the source...from the description I was thinking hub bearing or something similar, but when I drove it the sound was similar but not quite right and I didn't feel it the same way as a wheel/hub/brake noise...inspected the front end and everything checked fine....

Considered it could be a belt driven accesory but it didn't change with engine rpms, only road speed...regarless of gear, so that leaves me with the differential, only other item I can think of that maintains a speed linked to road speed independant of gear range or engine speed...

I used an old mechanic trick, ran vacuum tubing under the car to the suspected noisy area, up into the window so I could listen while driving. Crude, but works...

The sound was NOT coming from the diff, so now I'm disgusted. I decided to just watch it run in gear on the rack for a while and see if anything showed itself. The ONLY unusual sound I noted was and odd draggy noise the moment the radiator fan turned on, and the moment it shut off...it was not something you'd hear with the road noise, however, or so I thought. But just to be thorough, I spun the fan by hand, and found if I pulled the fan back towards it's electric motor while turning, it was really rough and gravelly...and I began to suspect what the problem was...

When the fan runs, the pitch of the blades drawing air inward from the front also pulls the fan forward on it's bearing, like a propellor. But when not cycled on and "windmilling" in the air from the vehicle moving, it's being pushed back in the electric motor...the fan's bearing was bad on the rear portion of the contact area, and it would rumble when windmilling, and was transmitting the grind through it's metal shroud to the radiator core support, which acted like a sounding board and sent the sound and vibe through the body where it was heard and felt in the cabin...

I unplugged and blocked the fan so it couldn't move, and went for a drive to verify...sound was gone...replaced the fan motor and made a new happy customer....never seen that happen before or since....
