Dashboard light problems

For some reason my cars dashboard lights (odometers behind wheel, radio, climate control etc.) do not turn on automatically as they are suppose to. The only lights that go on are the transmission light that says if I am drive or park or nuetral or what not and the digital clock in the center of the radio console (both of which are only on dim). This problem developed out of the blue. I have an after market remote start that acts up occasionally (sometimes the after market key fob wont respond when I press lock or unlock). I was wondering if anyone out there knows how to fix my problem and if it has anything to do with the remote start kit that was put on.

Re: Dashboard light problems

Boy I don't know. That's a new one for me. My guess would be that either you don't have power going to the dimmer switch or something has come off of the remote starter causing this issue (unlikely). On the intermittant working of the unlock problem, my guess you have a DEI unit like a Valet or something? Manytimes the battery clip inside the remotes becomes loose and needs to be resoldered.

Re: Dashboard light problems

Hello, Just got the same problem with my 2003 Impala.
PRNDL,and Radio light up just fine during the day, As soon as the automatic headlamps go on, the dash and radio display dim out.
I fooled the auto headlamp sensor with a flashlight so that the lights were under manual operation. The radio and PRNDL lights work, however the dash light dimmer does not. All Fuses are O.K., Also replaced the BCM and reprogrammed with a tech 2. Same problem........ HELP

Re: Dashboard light problems

This might be a dumb question but here goes... When I start my 2001LS in the dark, I have no dashboard lights, no PRNDL lights, no HVAC lights, etc. UNTIL I shift out of park and into gear... Then everything lights up... Is that the way it is supposed to operate??...
