wheels stud replacement 02 civic ex

I stripped out a front wheel stud and I'm wondering what's involved with replacing one. At first, a shop said it'd be as simple as just pounding it out and putting in a new one. Now, they're saying they need to remove and replace the bearing. It's an 02 Civic EX.
Thanks

I am not familiar with your civic, but I have seen a thread on www.carkb.com about the same problem. In addition to pounding the stud out you may need to remove the caliper assembly.

Good luck,

Sam

On this generation the hub has to be removed to remove the studs.

If I ever need any replaced I plan on installing a 4 studs new at the same time.

Not a great design.

Not much room to work with.

So, I made some room

And, did a "little" grinding on the stud.

And, with a little tap, tap, the stud went right in.

Hack job?? It sure felt like it. But, it cost $2.50 rather than the $200.00 the shop was going to charge.
