Completed: 1/24 1970 Gulf Porsche

Definately the most difficult build I have done to date, the doors proved to be an absolute nightmare and really dont fit correctly, but will have to do. Only some careful photography in the pics has managed to hide the worst of it!

If I ever build another 917 then the doors will stay firmly shut!

However overall I think it looks ok and Im happy with it too!

thanks again to one and all for all your kind words, the next project is already up and running and I'll start another WIP for it soon.

I will have lots more pics on my website which I have re-designed and will be up over the next few days.

WIP thread is here

Re: Completed: 1/24 1970 Gulf Porsche

I've been looking forward to seeing this one complete and it looks great! Really nice detail and the doors, even with the problems you may have encountered, still add an awesome touch when displayed open.

Great Job.

That´s by far the best livery for this car. The detail you added is simply awsome!

Fantastic job

As usual your weathering/detailing is something to learn from and aspire to.

I love the Gulf paint, always have always will. Its a contender for my race car's paint.

Nice work on an interesting subject! Great weathering skills! The only thing that bugs me is the seam on the rear left tire.

What are you using for lighting? Tungsten, flash, daylight? Lighting looks very even. Try lowering the angle of the camera so you're looking into the car instead of on top of the car for a few shots. Adds additional realism to your photos.

Congratulations, Sean. Just yesterday I was wondering how you were going with your 917, so it was a surprise to see you have finished it. Having both doors open certainly looks cool.

Phil, thanks mate, however never again - the photographs look better in terms of fitment with the doors than in real life, will keep them shut next time if I build another.

The lighting is daylight taken outside in the garden, I do take low shots yeah and agree they do look more lifelike - they will be on my site soon.

thanks again for all your comments guys

thanks Spike, I cant recommend the Historic Racing Miniatures engine upgrade highly enough for this kit, Im sure Phil will say same, it was very easy to put together and the moulding detail is impressive, it really completes the kit and obviously allows you to open up the rear and show it off!
