engine failure,p-steering prob,smog fails

1985 735i
first of all i am kind of new to this, but my lil bro bought his first car "735i" everything was great until the powersteering fluid seemed o boil over,since there wasnt any leaks, right now i think its the pump cause it appears to have some fluid dripping from it, ok now while driveing without any problems all of a sudden it just turns off while youre driveing, ok when you try to restat theres no juice and just clicks but doesnt turn the motor over,,

when i go to retrive the car, i jump in and it starts right up,everythings ok but pulling into driveway it stops and makes same noise,, i pull the batery and charge it, the car runs and is ok for 3 to 4 days, than quits again
and will start after a hour or so ,goes about 1 to 2 miles than its dead

can any one please give me any advice or ideas on what to do, the battery is about a year old
during all of this i am trying to get car to pass smog but theres something wrong with idle they tell me, so with the powersteering,car turing off all of a sudden, would this effect smog reading to show fail

i have no clue on what to do and could use any advice
