ding...ding..gas gauge

can you disconnet the device that keeps track of how much gas is in the tank...mine dings and the little gas pump lights up ..sporatically ..if the gas is over half a tank...help...

is the guage reading at 1/2 when ths occurs/ It sounds as if the fuel level sending unit (in tank and co-located with the fuel pump) is malfuctioning.

yes...is there any way to stop the noise...i took it to the dealer and he said the car is not worth it to fix it...
