Exclamation Manual Transmission Woes

I recently bought "3 months ago" a 2001 SL 1 and have been extremly happy with it until lately. When I get up in the morning when it is cold my transmission grinds a little while shifting into second. When I slowly shift into second gear and take my time it doesn't do it and once the engine runs a while and has a chance to warm up it shifts fine. I have checked my fluid, it is clean looking and is at an acceptable level and my tranny isnt leaking but I don't know where to go from here. Does anybody have any suggestions or has had this happen before, any input would be awesome, thanks.

Re: Manual Transmission Woes

I don't know if this will help, but a while back I blew a shift into 2nd. I wasn't racing, just shifting thru an intersection. Then I noticed that the shifter was very stiff moving. Everything worked, so I was careful on the way home. I sprayed white lithium grease where the shifter cables meet the bits that change gears at the transmission, and worked it around by shifting gears. (engine off)
After a short while, it freed up and has been good ever since.
I'm thinking perhaps the heavy rain that may have had something to do with the fault.
I just thought, since you bought it used, maybe check that it's got the right oil in it. My manual shift calls for automatic transmission fluid, not the old standard 90 weight.

Re: Manual Transmission Woes

no it has the correct trans fluid. it was put in a saturn dealership about 20,000 miles ago. I have the paperwork of everything they did to it because they always took it back to the dealership where they bought it. Im afraid it might have to do with the 2nd gear sycnro but pray that its not.

Re: Manual Transmission Woes

your hydraulics could be bad, or clutch.

The check engine light is also on, high rpm while driving, rpm goes up to three and won't idle down.
