94 Cutlass Ciera ABS light

Hi everyone. I recently bought a 94 Cutlass Ciera S. The previous owner said everything had been replaced or is in good condition, and I have been driving it for a few months with no problems at all. On Monday I noticed my power steering was a little rough, making a grinding noise. I also noticed that when I stopped at a light, the ABS light turned on on the dash. At the same time, while I was driving, it looked like the speedometer was showing that the car was slowing down faster than it seemed when I took my foot of the gas. By the time I dropped my friend off, the grinding was so loud that it was frightening me and my friend. I brought it to a shop and it turned out there is a cooling line for this model for the power steering that is not needed and was bipassed and the power steering fluid was refilled. My steering was fine after i got it back and we were going to leave the ABS light. Everything seemed fine until I was coming home from work and I noticed my speedometer was WAY OFF. It was going all over the place, being completely inaccurate. I was at a stoplight, completely stopped and it said it said I was going 20mph. I would take my foot off the gas on the expressway and the needle would jump up greatly. You get the point anyway. I got home, and we were going ot leave it to look at it today. My sister wanted me to drop her off at her friend's house, so I went out to start the car, and the battery was dead. I jumped it, and drove it to her friend's house. The ABS light came on, along with the charge light, which faded from being dim to off, then came back on again, and by the time I got home it was flickering. Meanwhile the speedometer was still going crazy, but at times it was okay.

Today we found out that one of the battery cables was loose and was a little corroded. We cleaned it and tightened it down, and then took it for a drive and the speedometer and everything else seemed fine, but the ABS light came on after a while of driving. Could there still be an electrical problem triggering the ABS light, or could this just be a seperate problem?

Thanks for your help.

I'd also like to add that I have an 8-month old AC Delco Professional battery. We do not think the battery is the problem.

Welcome to AF. You need to get the abs scanned on an abs function scanner, this will reveal any codes and you can compare wheel speed sensor inputs to see if a speed sensor is bad.
