I have a 1981 vw rabbit.. In the mornings it shifts nice and smoothly. However, towards the afternoon (ok 30 minutes after driving it) It starts to grate and grind when trying to shift. My husband tried adjusting the clutch..and adding gear lube oil...but it made no difference.. any other ideas?? or is there more then one place that you need for the clutch adjustment.???
Thanks

Re: Clutch
try a fresh change of 80w/90 gear lube with a GL-4 rating, GL-5 is not recomended because it attacks brass (read brass as: syncronizers). by the way, there should be about 1/4"- 1/2" of play on the clutch lever on the transmission. if the cable is holding the lever taught it will wear the throwout bearing prematurely.
