Welcome to the SUV club. I really don't even think about it. You have one because you wanted one. You knew the game before you picked up the bat, Homeboy ! ! ! Just sit back and enjoy the ride.

Hey look at it thie way at least you arent driving a '93 with a 350 in it and 3.73 gears and getting about at most 15mpg on the FREEWAY. I probably only get about 9 on the streets but like bcopeland said, you knew you were gonna get shitty mileage when you bought an SUV. Any full-size SUV gets relitively bad mileage. Even the japanese ones.

Re: 2001 Yukon 5.3L 12 MPG in city, IS THIS NORMAL ???
Thanks for all the replies.
I knew going in that I am going in for a low mileage SUV, But from the reports that I read I thought that I would be getting around 15MPG. Its really not that big of a deal cuz the ride and the SUV in general are well worth it. I was just wondering if it was normal or was there something wrong with my Yukon. Have any of you tried the K&N intake and the filter and the magnaflow exhaust combo? I read somewhere that it does make a little bit of a difference in both performance and the mileage.. thanks again for all the knowledge in this board. |

Well I have a "Cone" although it is not a K&N. It is good, but I do not have the "magnaflow" or "Catbacks". I think I get pretty good mileage. I ran to Washington DC, New York, LA, San Fran all from H-Town and it was all good - about 17.5 to 18. Its the city that gets the worse mileage.

That sure seems low for a 5.3l engine. You may want to take your foot off the gas a bit more. I have an 04 Denali with the 6.0 and I usually get around 11.9 to 12.5 with all city driving.

I have a 2001 SLT 4WD, get 11.5 pulling a 3500# boat. About 16 all around. Have a K&N air filter, that's it.
