My 96 Monte wont start!

For some reason my 96 chevy monte carlo ls will occasionally not start. After waiting and playing around with the car for a good 10 to 20 mins it will spontaniously start.
when the problem happens the first click works (the lights and dash and stuff) but the ignition is completely silent and nothing happens. i perchased a new battery, starter , and alternator and the problem still exists! it seems to happen after a bad day of rain. The machanics cant tell me wats wrong b.c the only time theyve had it with them it didnt have a problem starting.. can u please help me???

Does the secuity lite on the dash stay on when it won't start, also double check the ground and positive cables.

Re: My 96 Monte wont start!

Try doing a key relearn. Turn the key to the on position (without attempting to start) and leave it on for 10 min. Then turn it off for 10 seconds, and then start the car. Hopefully this will cure your problem.

Re: My 96 Monte wont start!

Try cleaning the leaf contacts in the ignition lock cylinder with a cotton swab and rubbing alcohol. Avoid using any spray-type or liquid oils on any of the lock cylinders - graphite only.

The SECURITY lamp should illuminate every time you power up the ignition.
