Back on the road to Cancer

It's like getting back with an ex-girlfriend that you know is bad news, but she's a sexy muthafucker and great in bed, and you can't get enough of her, no matter how much your friends tell you its bad news.

It's been about 2 months since i Cold Turkey'd cigarettes. I only had like one or two lapses where i had one bogie, but otherwise doing pretty well. I just started summer school this week, and all of a sudden, i just went through 2 packs this week alone. wtf. I'm dissappointed, but, i still went out and bought another pack... Im not blaming school, but i think its the setting. Something about that campus always just makes me want to light one up... and once i have two or three at school, back home and all seems no different and i light up again. Goddamnit, i was doing so fucken well too. Now if i stop again, i gotta go thru that whole edgy snap-at-little-shit phase, waking up coughing lung-butter pahse again. still, rather go thru that shit than go thru chemo.

<--me=emo over this...

:emo1: <--- emo Vinny

But seriously.. Just by posting that and waiting for the disapproving responses from the masses, its obvious you really don't want to smoke. Its just whats familliar and comfortable. And like you said, better to go through the lung butter and crankiness than chemo

Re: Back on the road to Cancer

well, actually, i didn't realize until now that this was all thats left of the post, just me telling you i'm smoking again. i had this paragraph of asking for advise on aids for quitting, but i really don't want to be using any patches or gum or anything.

plus, i like my analogy i made in the beginning, for those of you who don't smoke, and are wondering why its so hard to quit... trust me, its just like that.

Re: Back on the road to Cancer

just think of how good life is without them, you feel better.

when i quit i didn't do the "tone-down" thing where you progressively have less, i found it easier to just quit straight-up. if you go to buy them just stop and think for a second; do you really want them? you know the answer to that.

(it's no, by the way...)

The only people I've ever known are those that went cold turkey. In my family that is. A lady at work said she did the hypnotism thing and it worked for her, the only thing that got her to quit. You could always give that a try.

Re: Back on the road to Cancer

cold turkey worked for almost 2 months for me, which is big... u know, baby steps. honestly, i just can't believe i caved in out of nowhere, its not like i really wanted to smoke again, anyway, i was fine being clean. but the habbit of just taking that girl out and lighting her up and just keepin' it on my lips is soo... welcoming? thats some wierd shit, i know, but w/e... i guess i'll just walk around with a men in my mouth for a while. ne way, thnx for the help, i was just getting this dissappointment off my chest. i didn't want to go around telling my friends or family about how i picked up the habbit again.

when my dad was in the Air Force he learn hypnotism (if that's the right word) and made a number of people quit with that method. unfortunately he's reluctant to teach me it.

if you do use hypnotism then make sure its someone very well trained.

Re: Back on the road to Cancer

You said it yourself, you went out and bought them. Don't buy them, you can't smoke them.

Make your decision 100%, and stick to it. You've gone back to it...why? Comfort? Habit? Addiction? The thing is, you may want a smoke once and awhile for the rest of your life, but remember why you are quitting.

Throw out the rest of whatever you have. Don't fall into the trap of "I'll just smoke the last few" to not waste the money, or "one won't get me started". Think when you go into the store to get some. Put them back on the counter and get something else, or nothing at all.

Re: Back on the road to Cancer

Also think about the money saved. One of my friends when she was quiting always carried a bottle of water or iced tea and everytime she felt like lighting up, she took a drink of water or whatever the healthier beverage she had that day.

Re: Back on the road to Cancer

Vinny, don't get too emo over this. Most smokers take more than a couple of tries to make it stick. It's a drug addiction, that's why it's so hard to stop.

Call a clinic that handles smoking cessation and see what they can do for ya.
