Poof of smoke from dash

Yesterday after starting the 1991 Blazer S10, a poof of smoke came from the top of the dash over the instrument panel. The panel does not light up now but all lights, signals, radio, etc etc work. Checked the fuses, everything ok. What else can I check and is it safe to drive my car?

Re: Poof of smoke from dash

Welcome to Automotive Forums CBlake

There is a risk, however The damage is already done. And as long as you don't have a bare wire touching a ground your safe. I would hope that the fuse would blow if there's a short there.

You'll really have to either crawl under the dash to find the problem or more likely pull the dash.

Good Luck, Have fun, take your time with it and I'm glad that I don't have to do the work
