many sequoias, especially the 2003 models are experiencing vsc/trac problems. there is a defect in the computer sensor that either shuts down the power to the suv momentarily or enables the anti-lock brakes which results in a grinding stop. there are 3, count them 3 tsb's (technical service bulletins) listed on the DOT website (
www.odi.nhtsa.dot.gov) which describe this problem. there are also several complaints listed. i am experiencing this problem now and my suv shut down as i was taking a right turn almost resulting in a serious accident. this is MOST definitely a safety issue!!! when you lose power due to this defect, there will be no brake lights for the driver behind you to see!! Toyota refuses to pay for the repair because my not even 3 year old vehicle has 45ooo miles on it. they claim it is strictly a warranty issue and not a defect. in fact they claimed they had never seen this problem before but just happened to have the $1200.00 part in stock. my regular mechanic was well aware of this problem because of the tsb's so you know toyota had to know. the only way to get help from the government is if everyone who has ANY issues with VSC/TRAC/anti lock brakes etc report it to the DOT. mine started out as a simple light on the console that lit up ocassionally...was told it was nothing...just needed to warm up the vehicle. please report anything and everything. we can force a recall if we all work together and i will continue my fight on this end also. thanks.
