2000 xterra 4x4 front hub assembly

Today I decided to change my rotors and brake pads. While removing the front hub assemly I broke a white plastic part that had a spring around it . The part was a round metal piece that went into the hub with a spring and a white plastic piece that the spring sat in. Does anyone know what this part is called what it does and where I can get one ? Any information would be greatly appreciated. I called Nissan and they wanted me to buy the whole hub assembly.I hope I don't have to for one part.

its part of the fixed cam assembly and its not available separately, only the complete hub. not the dealers fault, just the way nissan sells them. i would try salvage yard before buying new.

Re: 2000 xterra 4x4 front hub assembly

How did you break it? Did you try to take part of it off before you removed the snap ring? It's all supposed to come off in one assembly, but the only manual-hub-swap how-to out there shows it incorrectly.

Unfortunately, it can't really be repaired. I had mine come apart on me once, and the plastic broke in two pieces and I actually did manage to wrangle the damn thing back together but it was a ROYAL pain in the butt and you're likely to break it further in the attempt.

I've recently sold off my supply of spare hubs, but I think I have an extra cam assembly I could part with. I'll try and remember to check.

Brent

Will It Do Any Damage With Out It (the Plastic Piece) ?

Yeah, you should have all the guts in there, otherwise there will be considerable in/out play potential in the CV. The snap ring won't have anything to seat against.
I just looked, I don't have the spare cam assembly after all...

Do you have the spline washer that goes behind the c clip? Or does Nissan sell just the clip?

Splined washer is 40219-8B400, the snap ring is available in 7 different thicknesses to set the proper CV end play, .2mm increments from 1.1mm to 2.3mm.

Thanks Brent. Nissan has 2 on the way for me now. I just like having the part number ready, instead of trying to explain over the phone what I need.

Re: 2000 xterra 4x4 front hub assembly

ok. Got the spline washer. Last thing. Before I reassembled the hub, I used a micrometer and it said the thickness of the c clip was 1.28mm. There are 7 choices of clips. My question Brent, would you go with the 1.1mm or the 1.3mm? The 1.5mm might be to thick. I think the 1.3mm, assuming my micrometer must be off just a hair. It has a self calibrating (zero out) button that I used prior to the measurement.

Thanks in advance. Mike

I'd say the 1.3, though it's cheap enough to get both...
