Airbag sensor on dash is lit

The airbag sensor stays lit on my dash. Shop says the seat belt sensor is out on driver's side seat. Has anyone ever replaced this? He quoted me some $300 just for the sensor. Does anyone know if he is legit or can I get this somewhere else? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Before I forget, I have a 1997 BMW 318I.

i am not sure if that price is legit, but i know that th eprices for those sensors are very high. the head protection airbag accidentally went off in my dad's X5, only on the passenger side, and to put the airbag back in and put in a new sensor, it cost over $3000!

Has anyone actually ever replaced this sensor? Just curious if it is very difficult?

might be simple

The same thing happend to my car, after the cleaners did some heavy cleaning insdie and they moved the chairs. the solution was very simple. is saw the guys at the BMW servie center, jsut hocking a handheld device to it and resetting something called "fault memory". my car is 320i '96

Hope this helps.

Very easy to replace. Just remove the seat from the car. It's a large torx bolt holding the piece. The problem is, unless you have a scantool to turn off your airbag light, your probally going to spend near $100 to have the dealership do their two second thing.

There are reset tools for SRS Air bags starting at $240 and scan/reset for more. Did some body scan your car?

Question airbag light on dash lights at start

I had to remove the steering wheel on my '94 318i and followed the reccomendation from the Haynes manual on removing the airbag. After you disconnect the battery leads (+and-) you wait 10 minutes for the capacitor in the impact sensor to discharge so the system is inoperative. After replacing the steering wheel and airbag, the dash light comes on when I first start the vehicle. It stays on for 2 minutes then turns off. Any ideas? My theory is the airbag control sensed the bag was removed even though I followed the recommendation.
