replacing antena motor

i bought a new antena motor to replace my old one for my 92 lude. i hooked everything up but it wont go up. the only thing that i can think is the problem is that the old antena didnt use 12 volt but this new one does. does this sound right. if so how should i go about getting a 12 volt power supply without using a wire connected directly to the battery. but if this doesnt sound right what could the problem be.
