OT: what was your first car, what car do you wish you still had?
Curiosity has stricken me today.
We've all had'em. To everyone else, they were terds on wheels. But to us, well to us, they were freedom, symbols of rebelion, why we had HS jobs, a way to get girls, a way to be cool. What could be so wonderful to bring all of these things? Our first car.... So I want to know.... ...what was your first car, what car do you wish you still had? maybe share an experience you had. my first car was an '88 Ford Tempo *YUK. I bought it for $200. It had 280,000miles. yep, 280. That frakkin car nickel and dimed me to death. I had to work just to keep it running! The kicker was I couldn't be on anyone else's insurance policy, so PLPD on that POS was $2100/ 6months (I was 16) needless to say, I didn't have insurance until I was 20 ![]() The car I wish I still had: the year: 1976 the car: Lincoln Mark IV Bill Blass SE I loved this car. It was longer than most full size pick ups at 21' bumper to bumper. The hood alone was 6' long. We would cruise all night long up and down the strip, racing, tryin to pick up girls. On night in particular, close to Holloween. I drove in the center lane of I465 ( a 55mile circle around Indianapolis),w a bunch of friends in the car, going 35-40mph while a car load of girls where in the fast lane. We were yeallin back in forth, tryin to get them to flash (they never did). We continued around 465 for 30miles that way. When I finally looked in my rearview I saw nothing but headlights for as far as I could see. So we both got off the interstate and went to haunted houses together. Ah, good times.

Re: OT: what was your first car, what car do you wish you still had?
I had 2 cars VERY briefly after I got my license. The first was an 85 T Bird v6, which died shortly after I got it, and then an 85 Ford Ranger v6, which some ass hat rear ended and totalled shortly after I got it. You can see more about that here:
http://photobucket.com/albums/a5/Ble...slideshow=true But, what I really consider my FIRST car was an '84 Chevy celebrity 2.8 v6. GREAT car. had plenty of room to roll the posse around in, and sometimes pick up a few chicks. The car I wish I still had: My dad's 84 Olds Toronado he had this car the same time i had the celebrity, but, man, that thing was huge! AWESOME car FWD v8. Got a couple of chicks in this one, too. He would loan it to me to drive whenever I needed a car if min was OOC (out of commission) for whatever reason. My friends called it the pimpmobile

Re: OT: what was your first car, what car do you wish you still had?
First car was a POS an 83' Supra. It was a lot of fun after we rebuilt the engine (blown Headgasket) and had to put a new set of brakes all the way around, pads, rotors and calipers as 3 out of 4 were seized. It got destroyed by some idiot who pulled an illegal U--turn on an off Ramp right in front of me. Driverside front fender and dents all along the driverside, couldn't get out of the driverside of the car.
However, the one I miss the most was my Audi GT 4000 Coupe. I know I know an import car. It was fun, It didn't really have any majors die on me and it was great hauling the crew around in it. One Night I believe we got 8 people in it;(it only sat 5 comfortably) and thanks god we only had to go a few blocks. It was lowered had a thumpy stereo in it, moonroof the whole nine yards. Alas, times change, people grow up and now I have a big ass truck that I haul me, the wife, and the rugrat around in.... If you guys want pics of the ol'Audi lemme know. I'm sure I have some somewhere...

My first car was a '73 monte carlo. Paid $400 cash for it. I absolutely LOVED that car!!!! It was a "piece of shit" according to my friends, but naturally they had no problems riding around in it all night every night since I was the only one with a car. It was so huge I think the record we set one night was 14 people inside the car with the doors closed. Can't believe I didn't kill us that night.....or a couple of other nights as well. I don't know what the top end on her was, but the speedo read 120 and I had it burried on more than one occasion. Once my buddy timed it. I had her wide open and the needle was pointing straight down (we could actually see the gas gauge moving) and when I hit the brakes he started timing it and it took a full 18 sec before the needle started to back down. Good times Great oldies!!! I still miss that car *sniff* *sniff*

Re: OT: what was your first car, what car do you wish you still had?
My frist car was a 1964 Studabaker Commander with a Chevy 289 V-8 (1965 was their last year). My parents bought it new in '64 and I got it in '71. It died and then I got a 1959 Ford Country Sedan station wagon. It was black and white with red interior and was powered with a 351 V-8. I was the second owner. My frinds at school called it "The Tank" and man did I have fun with that car. It's where I got my first.... well you know what!!! Gas was $.25 a gallon.....Aaaaahhh, those were the days. That's the car I'd like to have now to restore.

Re: OT: what was your first car, what car do you wish you still had?
I've had 5 vehicles since I was 16...not even 10 years ago. Anyhow.
1st was a 1971 Ford F-100 Sport Custom. 1996 Mustang 5.0, C4, Hole in the floor, and glasspacks!! Oh yeah, Top speed, 54 mph! Did all the work myself, inlcuding the hole! 2nd 1987 Ford F-150 4x4 Stepside W/T. It had no air, power anything, no carpet..but it was a 4x4!! had a 5.0 and AOD. Bought for $3500 with 130K on it. Sold it with 200K on it for the same price. 3rd (and favorite) 1989 Ford F-150 XLT 4x4. 5.8, C6, power everything and my first A/C!! Had 89K on it when bought, sold with 188K. I traded the black 87 in on this one. IT got about 9 mpg most of the time. 4th My silverado 5th - The 77 F-150 in my pics I posted last week. 400ci, C6, 35x16x15 boggers, no air, no power anything, but it has carpet and a radio! $2000 is all it cost.

My first was a '68 Tempest convertable, I got it in 1974. It looked like this
![]() only sky blue. It was rather peppy with its DOHC straight-6. My only mod was the requisite 8-track quadraphonic stereo in it. I remember loading it with my HS buddies and driving to a daytime party at a beach house, pulling up to a light at 11 am in broad daylight, and all my buddies jumped out and took a leak on the sidewalk facing the trees, with a line of traffic stopped behind us. I live it that town now, and every time I stop at that light, I think of that day and what fools we were. The one I wish I still had was a '64 Plymouth Valiant ![]() complete with push-button transmission . It was a hand-me-down in college, and it had such a reputation for shenanagins that I got pulled over in it because the campus security thought I was the previous owner who was banned from driving on campus (for who knows what). The best thing about it (besides the slant six that refused to die) was the ventilation system - it had the old black metal door that would swing open, and you could stuff 8 or 9 beer cans up there and close it. It was the perfect cooler for those winter road trips in Vermont. And it would always start at 20 below zero, while the kids with the brand-new Trans-Am's would be riding the bus. I had a piece of cardboard in front of the radiator to allow it to warm up enough to run the heater. |

Re: OT: what was your first car, what car do you wish you still had?
My first car was such a pice of shit my uncle just gave it to me. It was an '88 Ford Tarus. We called it "the tortis". I raced my friend with a Geo Tracker and actually won, that was fun. I was like a sofa on the inside though. I dident do a damn thing with that car the year and a half I had it except put gas in it. Never washed it, it had mas quantities of bird shit on it. Kinda gross. Oh yea, and water or coolant in it every morning because the radiator leeked like a drunk girl. But the money I dident spend oh that car helped me buy my truck so I was happy to have it. I had alot of fun times in that car wit my friends and the ladies. (HS girls dont care what kinda car it is they just wanna ride). The Car I wish I had is the '48 Chevy sedan delivery truck sitting in my garage. My dad put it in their back in '74 to swap the engin and just never put it back togeather. I want that thing soo bad. Just picture "Grave Digger" on 16" craigers. That thing needs alot of TLC.

My first ride was a 1985 Chevy S-10, colors brown/tan/brown...her name was Dookie Brown. It was my Gaga's truck so looking back it was important to me, I just didn't realize it because I was a punk teenager who just wanted something to roll in. The carbarator sucked ass in the worst way possible. Backed into two polls b/c the truck died and I had no power to push the brake pedal down far enough, and almost got broad-sided a few times after she died going through intersections. What she could do was produce enormous amounts of bass with the 1-12" sub I had in the back. It was the cheapy Jensen brand but it bumped so hard everyone thought I was rockin' two 12's.
That 2.8L V6 could do a mean burn-out. Shortly before I got rid of it, I was at a stop light in the neighborhood with about 2 or 3 cars in front of me and when I started a car came up from behind me which quickly disappeared in the cloud of smoke. When the light turned green and I let off the brake I didn't move for a few moments and then took off. The one-wheel peel mark laid on the street stayed there for nearly a year. ![]() Unfortunately for the guy that bought it, it was stolen probably a month later and actually totaled by the tow truck. How I don't know, but I felt really bad for the guy who bought it though. At the end of my junior year of high school I was given my current truck as an early graduation present. My dad just told me recently the reason he bought me the truck is because he wanted me to be able to drive something new and cool my last year of high school. He said it made up for his dad not allowing him to buy the car he wanted in high school.
