New Eclipse A few Problems

just bought a 97 gst. The oil gage doesnt work, it was reading low and it was infact low, filled it up and the gage didint move, how do i fix?. Air conditioning is busted, how much for a new one? And, what type of things besides a new oil change and possible spark plug change should I do. Since I have no history from the past driver I want to do my best to make sure my gst is running great. Thanks guys will be on tonight.

so when you press the gas the oil gauge doesn't move at all? If so then I think thats jus tthe sending unit thats busted. What do you mean by air conditioning is busted? If you need to replace the whole system you are looking at about 2 grand for at a goodyear or dealership and 900 or so if you are friends with a local shop. If you have no records of the car and everything is pretty much stock I would first change the timing belt, tensioner and etc. Then move to some new wires/plugs and maybe a new air filter if you still have the factory airbox. Other than that you should be pretty much set. I wouldnt worry too much about the airconditioning...1-2k is not really worth it to me and Im in TEXAS!!! lol so unless you got lots of

How many miles are on the car? Timing belt, water pump, and all the rest of the shit that should be changed when doing the timing belt should be done if you have no record of it. Do a search, theres a list.

Change the oil and filter, spark plugs and plug wires, air filter, flush the cooling system, if it's an auto I suggest changing the tranny fluid, etc. Most of what needs to be done should be in the manual as suggested maintenance.

Re: New Eclipse A few Problems

buy an aftermarket oil pressure gauge and install it. Most likely its your oil sending unit thats bad, or wire is disconnected from the top of it, or the gauge is broke. I had that same problem a few weeks ago and I installed an aftermarket oil pressure gauge and the oil pressure is fine.
