4th fuel pump gone bad. Can alarm have anything to do?
okay my 1998 blazer is on its 4th fuel pump now. After the 3rd time it happened i said to myself it cannot just be bad luck of getting faulty fuel pumps (even if its from Checkers) so i got on here and read about the fuel filter which i had never gotten replaced before and for 2 months i had thought i had seen the end of my freakin fuel pumps. But oh no it had to happen again. Can anyone tell me if there is something else i should be checking or replacing that makes my fuel pumps die? Thanks guys...would really appreciate it.

So you did replace the fuel filter? Do you usually get your gas at the same place? COuld be really dirty gas causing the filter to clog really fast, or alot of dirt in the fuel tank itself.

Replace the fuel filter?
Ever use a AC Delco pump?

I always get the gas at different places...and i was looking into maybe buying a diff fuel pump (would just get the same from Checkers cuz of the warranty, sad to see $300 go down the drain) but I'll look into both those things. Thanks guys.

Re: 4th fuel pump gone bad
Tell them to give you your money back.
You had 4 failures which is unacceptable. Talk to the manager.

Re: 4th fuel pump gone bad
We had that same problem with the police cruisers here, 4 of the crown vics went down within 2 days of eachother and of thoes 4 two had less than 12k on them and the other one ate thru the new pump in little over 30 hours, it turned out the county was giving us some really bad gas which had exceedingly high sulfur and copper in it. This stuff just destroyed the fuel pumps like nothing ive ever seen, but as i also learned, in most places regardless of who you buy the gas from, it all comes off the same tanker truck, just sold under a different name (my neighbor is a VP at NOCO energy corp) and he explained most of this to me, thought it might help.

ok well they exchanged the pump at checkers one more time yesterday morning and the got a new filter (they said the old one looked fine but changed it anyways) and it was up and running. I went to pick it up, drove it for like 3 miles and guess what???? it died once more...i was left stranded once again.
Parked, tried to turn it back on and no buzz from the fuel pump. (I am gonna start crying again). So the tow guy said it might be a relay problem and i cant remember what else, so i guess ill take it to a shop and have them check i dont what but have them check something out. Anything u can suggest to let me tell them to check? Ill keep u guys posted.

If it were mine I would go ahead and replace the fuel pump relay, its behind the glove box. You can access if from cover plate that is inside the back of the glove box itself and is an easy replacement, just pull the old one and plug in the new. It should not cost much, 10.00 or less. And if that does not fix the problem the next place I would look is the ignition switch itself.

Still not fixed yet. Went to get an AC Delco pump, but they checked the relay and all worked fine. They said it wasnt the ignition switch either. I was wondering if my alarm could have anything to do with it??? Two people told me it could be causing a problem. Seems a bit weird to me but maybe. Its got an auto start that never worked. Thanks for the schematic Jeremy.

Yes, that may very well be the problem since the alarm would most likely be wired in the same circuit that controls the fuel pump. Whatever they find the problem to be please let us know. Also when they pull the pump from the tank and replace with the AC Delco have them bench check, just hook to up to 12v, the one that was pulled and see if it really is working or burnt up. |

Re: 4th fuel pump gone bad
Not sure on this newer Blazer, but my 93 had this problem and it was a plug in connector in the pickup assembly in the top inside of the tank. Was corroded and black looking, seemed to be burnt which is not a good thing inside the tank like that. If you remove the tank again be sure and look for this.
