dash brake light

the into lock brake light on my dash has come one. i was curious if this is something i should be really worried about or. when inspected i was informed that the rear brakes were 90% worn. i havnt yet been able to afford new brakes yet as the ones i have still work. but if i replace them would that fix the problem or is it something else? thanx

when the brakes are excessively worn, the brake fluid level drops, turning on the dash brake light. consider your brakes unsafe to drive at the moment and repair them ASAP. brakes aren't hard, if you can do a tune-up your self, you can do brakes. even if you can only afford the fronts. part stores rotors can be cheap and work real well i'm told, some times only $20 each. not sure about the cost of pads. in the mean time at least top of your brake fluid(do not save a haft full can, after you brake the seal, it goes bad real fast) brake bleeding is a little more involved but still not hard.

iwhen topping off the brakr fluid does it matter what brand, type, or kind i put in?

DOT 3, you can convert to DOT 4 but the entire brake system would need flushed

considering i dont know what is in there right now, you reccemend DOT 3? when i finaly do the the brakes and bleed or fluch how ever the case is, does one work any better than the other that would be reccemended to be used if i had the choice?

it comes stock with DOT 3, DOT 4 deals better with higher temps, but to but honist you don't need it for a street saturn.
