My 1986 325es will not start sometimes when the outside temp passes 80. When I turn the key all the electrical works and I can hear the fuel pump but the starter doesn't turn. I can jump the terminals on the starter and it will fire right up. The problem does not always appear but seems to be happening more often. Any ideas?

sounds like the solenoid in the starter motor is failing.
