Tamiya tire decal question

Hi I'm new here. Lot's of great modelers on this site. Keep up the good work guys.

Well anyway. I just finished my Tamiya Xanavi GT-R. I was trying to follow the instructions on applying the tire decals but I could'nt figure out how to remove the "thin" paper they were talking about. I was able to tackle this dilema by just cutting the decal including the backing paper to shape. At that point, I just position it on the tire and wet it.

It worked, but I know I was doing it wrong and probably theres an easier way of doing it. I'm glad they gave 5 sets. It gave me a second chance when I messed up on of them.

So how do you remove the thin paper? Any tips/pics would be appreciated.

Welcome to AF! Iirc, doesn't it say in the instructions how to do the wheel decals? Eh..either way...You are suposed to wet the tire a bit..place the decal on, rub the letters on the tire with a q-tip. Make sure the transfer is 100%. Remove paper gently. Clear tires if desired. Good luck.

I'm not sure if you are referring to the protective sheet or carrier paper, but here's how I do to apply those reverse-printed tire decals

Cut out a decal.

Remove the protecting paper and expose the sticky side.

Place it onto the desired location

Press the carrier film gently to make all letters stick to the tire surface.

Thoroughly soak the carrier paper with water

Gently remove the career paper

NO! There is another thin paper on the thick card backing. Pick at the edge with a knife blade and it will release. It looks like the protective sheet when you get it seperated from the backing.

hmm interesting. I'll encounter this again when I do the Porsche GT1. I'll try this method on that one.

The thin backing paper is what the tire decal is printed on. As scaleracecars said, do not cut right up to the decal, but allow for some excess. Then use the knife edge to separate the thin tracing paper like layer from the hard cardboard layer. If I recall correctly, the tire decal is back to front.
