My brother has a 1992 Town Car, and is having some rather strange transmission difficulties. When it's hot out (i.e approximately 75 F or better) after the vehicle is properly warmed up, when he stops at a light and then attempts to accelerate briskly, the car merely sits there and revs up. Yes, he has it in gear.
If it's a rolling stop or a slower acceleration, he has no problems. The transmission has been rebuilt. One shop went through it twice already without success and a third shop is mulling over the problem. The fluid is good. I'm going to recommend the Lubeguard additive to him that I've read about in the forums. Beyond that, has anyone heard of this problem before? Any ideas for a solution? Thanks in advance. |

Do you happen to know what year the car was built? The sticker on the drivers door jamb will have it.
1992 was a transition year and 2 transmission were used. AOD was the early previous transmission used up until 2/92. AODE which replaced it was used 3/92. The 4R70W tranmissions used 1995 to present is basically a AODE. But it definatly sounds like it is going south. |
