|
I need to know of you who are avid street racers why you prefer the street vs going to the track. Also what if anything inhibits you from choosing the Track over the Street. What if anything would intice you to choose using a designated strip,track or even street (legal) to race. Thank you for your opinions and suggestions. I am working on a project in my local area to make racing work for both the street racer and law enforcement. I love racing my Nova!

Simple, accessibility.
We don't have any road courses here in Utah. We only have auto-x and Rocky Mountain Raceway for drag racing. Auto-x isn't really racing and trying to get more than two runs at RMR is few and far between. The street is accessible, thus people prefer to race there. |

Well the street seems to be better for me, as all the tracks in my area have shitty track prep. Also there are usually 400 cars at the track, making 3 runs after 8 hours if you are lucky. Plus, people seem to underestimate a car on the street, rather then at the track. Most people don't have slicks/drag radials on their beasts on the street, making them vulnerable to me

I only street race if i get asked to, there's more than enough tracks around here though that we go to all the time. Usually we just meet and hang out at the local meets, not a lot of racing.

So I see some of you who have accessibility to tracks use them. For those in your area that don't, If you had more tracks or designated areas to race. Would consider doing that? What about The rules of the track? Does that effect whether or not you use it. Ie (Valid license, Seatbelts, costs, winnings, engine or suspension requirments,) If they were designed to accomodate the street racer while keeping safety intact. Would that effect your choice.

The new NHRA regulations at tracks have been changed a little to try and attract more racers who dont want to put all the safety devices in. I think this applies to the cars who run up to 13 second quarters.

I prefer the track, but trying to run my car on the street would be worthless, lol. Any stock economy car could probably beat me simply due to traction, lol (not to mention its NOT street legal).
But even if I had a street-only car, I'd still prefer the track because there you get accurate and REAL performance measures, unlike the "Well my buddie's car runs 14.50s, and I kept up with him, so I'm a 14 second car" crap and you don't have to worry about endangering an innocent person's life. There's four 1/4 tracks within 2-3 hours of me (Mt. Park Dragway-Clay City, KY, London Dragway-London, KY, Cherokee Raceway Park-Rogersville, TN, and Bristol Dragway-Bristol, TN) along with one additional 1/8th track (Bluegrass Raceway Park-Owensville, KY), and then there's the 330 ft. track (Mountain Motor Express-Isom, KY) that I race at every weekend (start this Saturday BTW) thats like 35-40 minutes away.

If I race on the street, I'm only giving import enthusiasts who use thier cars properly and only use the track flack from Joe Public New Zealander who heap any modified Japanese/older European car in with boy racers who race around 50 km/h areas at 200 km/h. For 1/4 miles there's Meremere and for road courses there's Pukekohe, both about 50-100 km's away from me. it's no problem for me to go to either. Also, there's Manfield Autocourse about 6-7 hours away and Taupo Autocourse 4 hours away (Though only 1/2 an hour away from our bach). Both pretty good courses. |

Track mostly for me, it's safer, you don't get tickets, and you get hard proof of what your car runs, and the car that you just ran. Also, easier to launch

Track and street are different in that the street is mostly your standard traffic light to 100 or so little scrap. The kinda racing you see on every ones fave sequel i have never seen personally.
you go to the track to really drive your car, the street is just a trial run, one that is easily accessable, however we are all responsable for what happens and what we do, most ppl dont take 100+ speeds lightly, as they shouldent. as long as we know when to stop there are little problems. |

Me personally, Im way to quiet of a person to take my car to the track and race somebody...I guarentee Ill shift poorly, and grind the gears just our of sheer nervousness, Im just klike that...
and on the street Im not usually going out of my way to race people, but why am I gonna let some punk kids and their friends show me up at a light give themselvs the impression that their faster then me... I HATE losing, and to me, at a light is no different than losing in a basketball game
