tranny slip

I've got a '96 GMC Sierra K1500 with
a P1870 code correlating to slipping
transmission, GM says 4th gear, o/d
or torque converter. Am I sol or is there
cheap and dirty fix for this thing. Hope
springs eternal. Thanks
