Ok, I've got a 2002 Chevy Blazer Xtreme (its a 2 door). I've got a shaved door handle kit and I'm ready to install it all, but I've been trying to find some blanks that will cover up the holes in the door panel where the handles used to be. I would just make some, but alas no facilities. Anyone know where I can get some pre-made blanks to fill these damn holes?
Also, I've been having a bitch of a time finding a steel rollpan that'll fit my Blazer. Anyone know where I coult find one? Thanks, -Peace |

Re: Couple Q's about a Rollpan and shaving handles
What do you mean blanks that will cover my holes? What are these blanks. Your supposed to weld sheetmetal to the holes, bondo over it, the lay primer, and then the color fo your car. Thats the best way.

Re: Couple Q's about a Rollpan and shaving handles
Blanks are just pieces of metal that are designed to cover over a hole where something was previously housed. As in a door handle. Instead of cutting them out yourself you can buy them pre-measured/cut and even sometimes bent to the contour of your surface. I know you can get them because I've seen them before. I just can't find anywhere that sells them. Anyone know?

Well Home Depot mabe, but wither way your going to need a welder to weld it in, so just buy normal sheet metal, much easier.

Re: Couple Q's about a Rollpan and shaving handles
Well I assumed I'd just use some glue here and there, maybe pound in a couple of nails for good measure. -Peace

From what I have read on shaved door handles, there are three things you could do...
1. Sand down paint an inch or so on all sides of the hole where the handle is. Then get a piece of metal and bend it to the contour of the door. After that you spot weld it onto the door. If you try to weld all the way around the door the door may warp. After spot welding, grind down the beads till they are almost flush with door. Then bondo, grind, bondo, grind until it is perfectly smooth. Then get it painted. Also make sure you put in the solenoids befor you shave the handles. DUH! 2. I guess you are able to use chicken wire and put it on the back of the hole (inside the door). And then bondo the hole until its smooth. But doing it this way, the contour of the bondo may not match the contour of the door. When you get it painted the light may reflect differently and look all wavy. Noone else will notice, except you might notice and if you care alot about doing the work, then you may be dissappointed. If you dont, then by all means go for it. 3. What you wanted to do. You could always hammer in a couple of nails, throw on some bondo, not paint it and show your friends what an awesome job it is. I highly DO NOT recommend this option. I would recommend number 1. Sorry about the harshness, but it was pretty stupid... |

About the nails and glue. IT WAS A JOKE. I intended on welding sheet metal over the holes where the handle go. I just don't have a plasma cutter, oxy/accentalne(sp?) torch, nibbler, band saw, etc... I saw on like Trucks TV that you can get metal that is pre-cut and pre bent to the countour of your door to cover the holes where the door handles went. I still can't find them so I'm just gonna go buy a grinder and a few cutoff wheels(cheepest way to cut some steel). By the way, anyone that thinks they can just bondo over the holes is a complete hack. Peace-
