1994 Altima GXE idle rpm fluctuations

Hello,

My name is Terry and i bought a 1994 Altima GXE, so far so good, but my problem is that when i'm stopped at a red light, my rpms vary. When i stop the rpm is about 900, then they dip to 500 rpm and the car starts to shake. 5 seconds later the rpm goes up to 700 and then varies around there (between 500 and 900).

I was wondering, what could be my problem and how do i fix it? I bought the repair manual but am unsure of my problem. It could be a TPS problem or the rpm screw (so i've been told).

Any help will be appreciated,
Terry

My 95 does the same thing. At first I thought it was gonna stall, but it never did. I known another Altima owner who experiences this as well, so it seems pretty common. I don't think it's anything to worry about, unless it's wildly going up and down.

Like I said it could be your TPS or it may be a oring that goes bad inside your distributer. You can read about at
