2nd gen motor in 1st gen car swap.

I know you must all think I'm retarded, but I have a perfectly good 2g 7 bolt motor in my TSi FWD and I just found a local 1g GSX in good condition for super cheap. I was wanting to know how tough it would be to get my 2g motor in the 1g GSX. I figure my clutch and pressure plate might be the same, but the flywheel would be different. It's a 99 GSX motor that I have, so I'm also guess the CAS would be the same too? Anyways... Any thoughts or comments would be appreciated.

Yeah man, that really doesn't make too much sense to me at all. Please let us know why you would want to do that.

it would make more sence to install the 2g 4bolt rear end and 2g tranny into the 1g insted.

Re: 2nd gen motor in 1st gen car swap.

The gsx I was looking at was just the shell and tranny, no motor. That's why. Also, my 2g isn't AWD.

Re: 2nd gen motor in 1st gen car swap.

Ok, but the question still is, why? The 1g motor is stronger than the 2g and WAY WAY WAY less prone to crankwalk, maybe 1 in 10000. Putting the 2g motor in a 1g is like putting a honda motor in a dsm, it's a bad idea!!

If the 1g is a shell I would do it, for the AWD. I'd say 1 g AWD with a 2g motors is better than a FWD 2g.

Re: 2nd gen motor in 1st gen car swap.

It isnt possible. The 1g's motor mounts are part of the block. The 2g motor wont have them. 2Gs mounts are on the tranny, which is why we can use the 1g blocks

Edit> Second guessing myself. I would check to see if the bosses for the mounts are there, sometimes they cast in useless shit like that, or perhaps it was used in some random obsure car the motor was used in, etc. But don't hold your breath.
